The building at 11 South Street in Bernardston was constructed in 1929 by the Barber family, residents of Bernardston since the 1880’s. The family operated a grocery store on the main floor, with a residence above and an automobile repair shop in the basement.

By 1945 the store had closed, and 11 South Street had been purchased by International Grange Chapter 81, an agricultural and social organization. By 1998 Grange membership had diminished and 11 South Street was in need of repair.

Elice “Mimi” Davis Pieropan and her daughter Pamela Pieropan Adorno had been searching for a location to realize their dream of a Gallery/Workshop. 11 South Street suited their needs. They have put effort and energy into maintaining and restoring the building while retaining its original character.  It pleases them to make full use of this lovely building as a home for the arts in Bernardston.
